It's a long and complex story, but the gist is that an archive search has shown that there are still outstanding payments for the Liberty Bell, and so the British who made it are demanding it's return from Philadelphia. This seems a rather straight-forward claim, and I hope everyone will support it with the due importance it deserves.
I suggested to Dr Gill that we organise a letter to The Telegraph, and other suggestions are welcome.
Although the bell may be the symbol of Liberty to Americans, it is also the symbol of British skills at founding bells, and our great talent at accounting.
UPDATE - the ACCG has informed me that they are involving the NRA in this dispute, so it will soon be over.
