From Hagia Sophia: Domes over Istanbul

Keeping to my Haghia Sophia theme, I thought I'd post photos of a few domes. We archaeologists tend to take them for granted, but after the Pantheon the next great dome was that of Haghia Sophia. Then the technology was lost, and early Renaissance domes tended to be ribbed - if you're interested in how difficult a time architects had with domes, look up the story of Brunelleschi and the Duomo in Florence.
